Artists In Affinity: "A Celebration of Diversity"
group show
Walsh Metal Works Gallery
January 25 -
February 18
2002

Artists In Affinity is a group of select artists who live and work on St. Croix. "A Celebration of Diversity - In The Pursuit Of Fine Art" was one of a number of group shows the group has exhibited over the last few years. Luca was delighted to be invited to submit works to this show at Walsh Metal Works Gallery.

For this show Luca has created three sculptures of found objects combined with watercolor and acrylic paintings. The pieces can be seen as three ghostly figures who personify the past and uncertain future of the farm where he grew up on St. Croix's south shore.

Two additional pieces, not included in the exhibition, also refer to vivid memories - although not necessarily the artist's own.

"These found objects and small paintings evoke memories of past experiences in an immediate environment," the artist says about these works. "Beams from an old cattle scalehouse at Longford, and artifacts found on Longford beach create elemental figures of the past. By combining textures and colors of a specific vicinity, a personal and/or historical sense of place is brought to life."
