In 1997, Luca Gasperi teamed up with Dr. G. Daniel Blagg, a longtime friend and former teacher, to create a complete guide to the placenames and history of the Caribbean island of Bermuda.

Dust jacket cover, The Bermuda Atlas & Gazetteer

Luca designed every aspect of this elegant, large scale atlas; in addition to creating a custom typeface and over fifty watercolor and spot illustrations, he also painstakingly created handpainted maps of each of the parishes of the island. From the first sketches and visual research, to the digital files and ink and paper choices, to proofing the final product, this was a substantial undertaking.

In addition to the design and layout of the book itself,
Luca designed a custom typeface, over fifty watercolor and
spot illustrations, and six large foldout handpainted maps
of the island parishes for the Bermuda Atlas and Gazetteer.

The Bermuda Atlas & Gazetteer is considered by some historians to be the definitive and most exhaustive resource on Bermuda's placenames. At the same time, it is an entertaining read and an elegant Caribbean art book, with high-quality full color and duotone reproductions of artworks, and metallic copper flourishes on the pages.

"I was struck by this sophisticated volume - it stood out ... for its beautiful look and feel, more like a fine 19th century guide for the well-heeled traveler." - Amazon.com reader review

In 2001, Luca Gasperi was awarded an Artist Residency by the Bermuda Masterworks Program and exhibited a solo painting show in Bermuda at the conclusion of his residency.
